The organization controlling the state monopoly of alcohol and tobacco (ATVR) wanted to make wine and spirits stores more inviting to customers. PK Arkitektar were asked to renovate the original building dated from the 1900s to house the new wine and spirit store on Austurstræti Street in downtown Reykjavik. The architectural concept focused on the visual bridge between the plaza, the public garden Austurvöllur and the busy commercial street Austurstræti. The atmosphere of the shop was carefully controlled by the curved ceilings and custom lighting fixtures of aluminium sheeting, as well as by the custom fittings and millwork The store stood unchanged until demolition in 2012, making room for a franchise rebranding of the ATVR stores.
