The occupation of the plot was the result of a request for an outdoor courtyard which would be both sunny and sheltered from the wind. The solution can be seen in the two resulting courtyards carved from the monolithic structure. The sunken courtyard which flows into the completely glazed public area of the house and yields access to the upper level - one solid mass elevated from the ground, protecting the courtyard below while accessing the western sunlight and affording a view to the north over the neighbours' roofs.
